Tips to detail and clean your car like a professional
Tips to detail and clean your car like a professional
First before anything, the car detailing essentials we will need is;
► 2 bucket GG wash method (Grit Guard)
A Grit Guard is an insert that is placed into the bottom of your wash and rinse buckets that aids in extracting dirt particles from your wash mitt. They allow the dirt to sink to the bottom of the bucket and provide a clean, scratch-free wash mitt every time you go back to the bucket for water. One bucket is filled with soap, the other is filled with water.
► Car Shampoo & Wash Mitt
Personally we love and carry CarPro Reset car shampoo, along with OBSSSSD Auto Wash. As far as wash mitts, you can pick up any car wash microfiber at your retail store or visit our shop for supplies.
► Rim and Tire brushes and Wheel Cleaner
Wheel woolies or specific rim detailing brushes can make the world of a difference in cleaning the inner barrels and other hard to reach areas. Contact us today if unsure as we can guide you in the right direction. As a dedicated wheel cleaner, a water based APC (All Purpose Cleaner) or Iron-X to remove brake dust and other embedded contaminants
► Drying towels
The higher the gsm, the higher quality your microfibers will be. We always carry multiple detailing microfibers to ensure we aren’t marring the surface.
► Window Cleaner, Bug & Tar Remover
► Tire Shine
Personally, our go to product is P.E.R.L by the makers of CarPro. This excellent product can be diluted to your specific needs without leaving a greasy finish.
Let’s begin a proper way to have your vehicle detailed without causing those nasty swirl marks.
- First fill up both wash buckets with water. Avoid putting your soap for now as it will bubble and waste most of your car soap product
- Once each detailing bucket has been filled, add soap to one of them and give it a shot with your hose or pressure washer to get the most out of your suds
- Avoid washing your vehicle in the sun at all times as it could leave water spotting. Ideally, around sunset or cloudy day/time would avoid these
- Rinse the vehicle completely, along with the wheels and inner fenders to dislodge debris
- Always start with the roof or top as all the dirt will slide off the vehicle. Usually we would separate the roof into 4 sections and avidly use the 2 bucket washing method.
**The 2 bucket wash method is simply using the 1st bucket with your car soap, making a pass, then rinsing off in your water bucket to trap dirt and debris at the bottom. When washing your vehicle, always ensure to avoid doing so in a circular motion as this is what causes the infamous Swirl Marks. Vertically or Horizontally - Repeat these steps throughout the entire vehicle. When getting to lower sections of the vehicle, such as the rocker panels, rear or front quarter panels, make sure to always rinse more into the soap and water bucket. Most of the dirt is always concentrated to the bottom areas of the vehicle. For the extra O.C.D. in our clients, you could assure to hose off your wash mitt as extra precaution
- If in the sun, always rinse off panels as you. Doing so can avoid soap stains in the paint or finish. On a hot sunny day, it doesn’t take much
- Once the car has been detailed or washed, dry the vehicle with multiple microfibers
- As we carry extra buckets for the wheels, you would normally empty the water and repeat Step 1, or use the water left over if your vehicle was not extremely contaminated
- Using your dedicated rims brush and wheel cleaner, agitate each rim and wheel barrel while still utilizing your 2 bucket wash method
- Rinse off each wheel and inspect areas
- Dry off extra water that was sprayed from detailing your wheels
- Grab your window cleaner and detail all windows inside and out
- Apply Tire Shine to tires
- Inspect vehicle once again for forgotten or missed areas
Now that you have taken the proper steps in detailing vehicle, all you need is a nice photo shoot to display your hard work 🙂
